Black-Chinned siskin - Spinus barbatus
Back-Chinned Siskin is similar to the Eurasian with a length of about 12/13 centimeters. The sexual dimorphism is not very accentuated, the males lend themselves head, chest and yellow-colored tails, while the nape, back, cheeks and scapulas are olive-green, under-tailed, belly and hips are greyish-white and wings and tail are instead black, the cap up to the top and a thin goatee under the beak (which gives the name to the species) are black. The females have a very reduced yellow lipochrome that is limited to the wings.
Habitat: widespread in wooded areas of southern South America.
Feeding: granivorous, in particular it nourishes of seeds of ebarcee plants (grasses), but also berries, buds, leaflets and small fruits. In the reproductive period, even small insects increase in energy requirements.
