Vietnamese Greenfinch - Chloris monguilloti

Vietnamese Greenfinch - Chloris monguilloti

The Vietnamese Greenfinch is a bird with a robust appearance and vaguely similar in appearance to that of the Lucherini, with a strong beak, pointed wings and a slightly forked tip tail. In both sexes the beak is pearl gray, the legs are light flesh colored, the eyes are brown. The plumage has black on the head, back, wings and tail, while the throat, shoulders, codione, chest and belly are yellow. The females have an almost completely absent yellow and a much more diluted cephalic and dorsal black, with a livery dominated by shades of olive green and brown-greyish.

Habitat and Breeding: the Verdone of Vietnam is widespread, as the name suggests, in Asia in Vietnam. The habitat is represented by the pine forests with a prevalence of Pinus kesiya . The breeding season runs from December to May, the reproductive habits of these birds do not differ significantly in terms of mode and timing from those of the other greenfinches and finches in general.

Feeding: essentially granivorous, feeding mainly on Pinus kesiya pine nuts and grass seeds, but also on shoots, berries and sporadically also on small invertebrates, especially in the reproductive period.
